Caring for your smile after invisalign

Whether you decide to take up Northridge braces or invisalign, you must care for your smile and that is necessary. Here at Kimono Orthodontics, we love nothing but seeing our patients happy with their erected smiles. Most of you are excited when the treatment of Northridge orthodontics comes to an end. However, it may not be the end and there are still things lined up. We would all to see the outcome and the new lovely smile, but to maintain the smile, there are few more things that should be done. Once you have successfully moved your teeth, you need to ensure that the teeth remains intact in their positions and do not go back to where they were. To achieve this, you need to follow the instructions given by your orthodontist. Check out the below information.

Your life with aligners

In the beginning when the treatment is completed, your teeth could feel sensitive and you will need some adjustment period after the treatment is finished. This is a crucial time and you must not eat anything hard or crunchy so that your teeth are impacted. Do not eat food that require significant amount of chewing. This is a for a time being when your teeth are settling down immediately after the treatment and as you begin to get used to wearing the new set of retainers, which are also an important part of the treatment process.

Using the retainers

One of the critical things our orthodontist will discuss with you is the use of retainers. Once the work of aligners are done, the work of retainers start. This is non-negotiable and this is important after the treatment of Northridge braces as well. Retainers are critical in keeping your teeth in the same positions. Let us see why retainers are so important.

Your teeth are supported by your jawbone and when you are undergoing the invisalign treatment, gentle forces are used to gradually shift your teeth into new positions. This is not an easy task as each teeth is surrounded by a bone and to move, the bone of either side must gradually become resorbed. Once the tooth is in the correct position, the new bone begins to grow around the tooth, which helps to stabilize it and to ensure it is held in place. It will take some time for your body to remodel the bone in this way and the whole process can take between 9 to 12 months.

This simply means that when you stop wearing the aligners, the bones are still in the remodeling process, but the teeth have memory and they would gradually shift back to their original positions. To prevent this, you must wear retainers until they are necessary.
